We promote the independence, dignity and health of older adults by delivering services to meet their particular needs.  We rely on caring volunteers to help carry out our mission by helping to deliver these services. Please call for more information on any of these volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer Opportunities

Caring Callers - Volunteers make contact with homebound elders by telephone, checking in with them and referring any information on their changing needs to MAS Staff.  This program is not in need of volunteers at this time.

Collators Volunteers assist with various clerical tasks associated with preparation for mailing newsletters and other publications, preparing informational packets, folders or other assembly line projects. MAS Collators support several of our programs. 

Computer Tutors – Volunteers assist and train elders on computer program and internet basics through one-on-one sessions in our computer lab.

Community Liaison Volunteer – Volunteers share information about MAS Programs and helpful news on aging and resources with their current social or community groups on an ongoing basis. 

Farmer’s Market Coupon Assistants – Volunteers perform tasks that support the agency’s Senior Farmer’s Market Coupon Program at the Saturday Markets May through October.

Foster Grandparents -  This is a stipend program for volunteers 55 and older who meet income eligibility guidelines. Volunteers work with children in local schools and non-profit day cares.

Friendly Visitors – Working with the Ombudsman Program, volunteers visit residents of area nursing homes. 

Front Desk Receptionist - Volunteers greet guests of MAS and help manage our front office. This program is not in need of volunteers at this time.

Home Maintenance & Safety - Volunteers attend to minor repair projects in a senior’s home, as well as providing safety checks. This service makes it possible for many local elders to remain safe and independent in their own homes.  This program is not in need of volunteers at this time.

Meals on Wheels Drivers - Volunteers provide hot, nutritious meals to homebound and/or elderly residents in Missoula County. Deliveries take place Monday through Friday, from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mileage reimbursement is available. Currently we do not have any open routes for volunteers, however we will accept applications for future openings. Volunteers may choose to deliver meals as little as once per month, but we ask for a commitment of 6 months of continued service.

Meals On Wheels Dispatch Assistant – Volunteers provide assistance to drivers and staff at meal dispatch location. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday, approximately 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  This position is currently filled. 

Meals on Wheels Reassessment Volunteer - Volunteers phone and interview Meals on Wheels clients due for reassessment. This position is currently filled. 

Meals on Wheels Office Assistant - Volunteers enter data to the Montana Aging Service Tracking (MAST) Program and an Access database, and regularly update client address list for mailings. Training and support on data entry is provided. This position is currently filled.

Montana SMP - Volunteers are trained to help others sort medical bills, and understand Medicare fraud, waste and abuse. Those interested may make presentations to local organizations.

RSVP - Older adults age 55 and over can access hundreds of volunteer opportunities in Missoula County by joining RSVP. Personalized service matches your skills and interests with available volunteer opportunities. 

RSVP Tutors – RSVP Volunteers (age 55 and older) who provide tutorial assistance to children in local schools.

Senior Diner Club Mailing Assistants – Volunteers prepare the Senior Diner Club monthly mailing.   This program is not in need of volunteers at this time.

Specialized Volunteers - Throughout the year there are times we seek volunteers to help in a variety of areas. If you have a special skill or talent you are interested in sharing, please inquire. Often times we are able to create a volunteer initiative based on a person’s special skills!  

Volunteer Companion Programs - Volunteers provide the elderly and adults with a disability companionship, making their lives less lonely and helping them to live independently. We offer the following programs to volunteer: 

Senior Companions - This is a stipend program for volunteers 55 and older who meet income eligibility guidelines. Eligible volunteers are matched with seniors to provide support and socialization.   

Caring Companions - Volunteers 18 and older matched with seniors who are at risk for isolation and depression.  

Respite Companions - Volunteers 18 and older matched with caregivers and care recipients to provide limited respite services. 

Good Friends - Volunteers 18 and older matched with elders for companionship and socialization. Volunteers offer friendship and support by giving as little as two to four hours each week.  

Volunteer Resource Center Librarian - Volunteers organize and maintain current materials in the Resource Library to streamline the assistance given to MAS clients and their caregivers.  This position is currently filled.
